About Us

Our Mission

The RaYnbow Collective is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Provo, Utah, focused on creating and identifying safe spaces for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff at Brigham Young University. To accomplish this, we develop networks across Utah with organizations, businesses, artists, and activists to support BYU students wherever they are physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Our Story

The RaYnbow Collective was founded in 2021 by Maddison Tenney as a way for LGBTQ+ BYU students to feel connected by sharing stories, art, and connecting them to local resources. As time went on, Tenney realized that while Utah provided a plethora of organizations, many remained inaccessible for queer students at BYU simply because they did not know about them. She has worked with hundreds of other community organizers to create events like Back to School Pride, the LGBTQ+ Utah Summit, DEI training for BYU Faculty and staff, and much more. She is inspired by her faith and her belief that everyone deserves kindness. She hopes that from her work, nobody will ever again feel alone at BYU. Her mission is to be kind, stay curious, and create love.

Our Story

The RaYnbow Council

The council is responsible for running all aspects of the Collective. It is comprised of BYU students and non-BYU students; Queer persons and allies; those who live in Utah and those who live out of state. Each member comes from a different background and has a unique perspective, and by utilizing their strengths, they come together to help support LGBTQ+ students and other marginalized groups at BYU.
